Members of Rochester advertising community invited to submit work for 4th annual exhibition

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 7, 2018 –  Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo) invites members of the design and advertising community to be a part of 4th annual On the Side, an exhibition of fine art made by members of the Rochester Advertising Federation. The show will feature rarely seen personal works by some of Rochester’s most well-known graphic artists, photographers, and designers. Unique to RoCo’s programming, this three-week long exhibition offers a fresh collaborative exhibition format.

The title of the exhibition stems from the personal work that many members of the local advertising community complete outside of their traditional working hours, work that is created “on the side.”

Since debuting in 2015, On the Side has quickly grown into a signature event and exhibit for the Rochester Advertising Federation and RoCo. More than 30 artists had work displayed during the 2017 exhibition, and organizers expect even more artists and advertising professionals to submit work for display and purchase during the 2018 showcase.

All current members of the Rochester Advertising Federation are invited to submit work for display for the On the Side exhibition. Entries will be accepted through August 17, 2018. All entries should be delivered to Rich Brainerd Studios, 450 W Metro Park, Rochester, NY 14623.

The On the Side exhibit is an exclusive opportunity for members of the Rochester Advertising Federation. The On the Side exhibition will be on display at RoCo September 6, 2018 – September 22, 2018. The exhibit will begin with a special opening night celebration on Thursday, September 6, at RoCo, 137 East Ave, Rochester, NY 14604. “In a few short years, On The Side has become a new tradition for the Rochester art community,” said Bleu Cease, Executive Director/Curator, Rochester Contemporary Art Center. “On The Side gives many members of the creative community an opportunity to exhibit a different side of their creative output, and it also gives the public a chance experience the personal artwork made by some of the region’s most talented advertising and marketing professionals.”

For members of the Rochester Advertising Federation, On the Side has become an annual opportunity to tap into the full spectrum of their creative skills and work on projects outside of their normal “9-5” responsibilities. Visitors to On the Side may see a watercolor painting created by a photographer, a photo shot by a copywriter, or even furniture hand-crafted by a graphic designer.

“The exhilaration of having my personal work hang in the RoCo/RAF On The Side show is just the kind of jolt every commercial artist needs to remind them that, beneath all of the layers of professionalism, customer-service, deadlines and revisions, lies the raw creative passion that led them to the field in the first place,” said Kurt Brownell, owner of Kurt Brownell Photography.

The Rochester advertising community continues to receive regional and national recognition for the strength of the work completed by local agencies and corporations.
