Mary Therese Friel has been a part of the Rochester advertising community for over 50 years. She started out as a Kodak model at age 11 and hit international status by age 19 as Miss USA. Her modeling career took her around the world, as she graced the covers of many magazines, including Vogue. She was offered numerous movie roles and spent time with the world’s rich and famous.

Whether keeping company with European royalty or working in the White House, she always kept a connection with Rochester, buying a small farm here with her earnings. It was a private two-hour meeting with the great Muhammad Ali that changed the course of her life. Afterwards, she focused on the final words he left her with and decided to make them her words to live by: “Service to others is the rent we pay for our room in the hereafter.” She decided to return home and open The Mary Therese Friel Modeling Agency, creating a company and a legacy of serving her community.

Thirty-five years later, she is very grateful and humbled to receive the Silver Achievement Award from her colleagues. It is truly another one of her crowning achievements!
